BACKGROUND
Soundcloud’s 2024 Listener Stats Reel transforms audience insights into a striking visual story.
Designed with inspiration from brutalism, the reel embodies the platform’s core values of authenticity, individuality, and unfiltered expression.
As a creative studio, we had the pleasure of collaborating with Soundcloud's visionary team to bring this vision to life, crafting a design that resonates with their bold and uncompromising identity.
VISION
We wanted each story to be unique while also retaining the main brand direction and a few key common motifs.
Each intro card shares the same style and design while each individual story has a different personality.
With an art direction inspired by a mix between brutalism, modernism and urban art we wanted to leverage a different brand color for each story together with specific typographic rules and layouts.
PROCESS OVERVIEW
Creating the experience required a mix of tools from Photoshop for manipulating textures and effects, to Illustrator for specific key illustrations as well as After Effects for rendering initial test concepts.
After everything was complete we worked closely with the Soundcloud development team to recreate the animations in a tool that would simplify development and complex data integration into each story.
Our choice was Rive due to the native app ability to support dynamic text runs and image replacements, which was a key factor.
EARLY EXPLORATIONS
Exploring diverse theme and styles in the initial concepting allowed us to properly refine the art direction while staying true to the brand’s personality.
RESULTS
We were inspired by the incredible response from our community, as they shared personal stories and celebrated the variety of artists that defined their year. The conversations across social media highlighted the diversity and individuality that make our audience so unique.
